Figma Constraints and Resizing

Figma is a popular design tool used by millions of people around the world. One of its key features is the ability to resize elements within a design without losing their proportions or shape.

To use Figma's resizing feature, you first need to understand the concept of constraints. Constraints are rules that help maintain the proportions and shapes of your design elements when they are resized. They work by limiting the amount of space an element can take up on the screen.

  • Fixed Width: This constraint keeps the width of an element constant no matter how much it is resized.
  • Fixed Height: Similar to fixed width, this constraint keeps the height of an element constant.
  • Equal Width/Height: This constraint ensures that the width and height of two or more elements are equal.
  • Percentage Width/Height: This constraint allows you to set the width or height of an element as a percentage of the total width or height of the container.
  • Relative Width/Height: This constraint lets you specify the relationship between the width and height of an element relative to another element in the same container.

Once you have understood the concept of constraints, you can start using them in your designs. To do this, simply select the element you want to resize and then click on the "Constraints" button in the toolbar. You will see a list of available constraints appear. Select the one you want to apply and adjust the size of the element accordingly.
